Caustic soda, or sodium hydroxide (NaOH), is used as a strong base in the manufacture of chemicals and products such as pulp, textiles, drinking water, soaps and detergents. In the pulp and paper industry large amounts of sodium hydroxide is both consumed and generated continuously.

It has universal applications in soaps and detergents, fertilizers, and industrial operations. It is also used in molten salts, dyes, pharmaceuticals, and photographic chemicals. KOH is commonly used in the food industry due to its excellent detergent and strong antimicrobial properties.

Potassium hydroxide, or caustic potash, is used in a wide variety of industries. It is used in the chemical industry, mining, manufacturing of different compounds, fertilisers, in potassium soaps and in detergents.

Description. Ethyl acetate is used as a solvent for varnishes, lacquers, dry cleaning, stains, fats and nitrocellulose. It is released during the production of artificial silk and leather, and during the preparation of photographic films and plates.
